What are my job prospects after I finish the course?

There is always a demand for well-trained instructors. After completing your course with Brisbane Driving School you will be capable of self-employment as an instructor or work for any driving school Australia wide. There are employment opportunities occurring continuously in the industry to teach the growing numbers of young people in the community.

Many car driving instructors work on a commission basis. Some driving instructors use their own vehicles which are converted to dual control, while others use company vehicles. Driving instructors have a high level of public contact. It suits people who enjoy teaching people to learn a vital skill. There is often a great deal of satisfaction in helping a young person at an important stage of their life gain a valuable licence which helps them gain independence and a qualification to drive.

You also need to consider how to set up your business. This will depend greatly on if you decide to start your own school or work for an established school. Even if you are working for another school in almost every case you still have your own business and work on a sub-contract basis for the school, so you will need an ABN. You can apply for an ABN on line with the tax office, https://abr.gov.au/ .Both systems have advantages and disadvantages, we suggest you discuss with your accountant the best way for you to set up your business to get the best advantage for you. We do suggest however that if you have not run a small business before you do consider all the difficulties you may encounter and discuss these with your accountant or someone in the industry, or alternatively consider working for a school even for a short time to become familiar with the industry.

Assessment Methods

Each unit of competence will be assessed. All assessments will be based on the principles of CBT (Competency-Based Training). A successful outcome for this course will be determined by a range of different methods including online or student workbook, written assessment, observation of simulated and practical activities, structured questioning and discussion and written or verbal questioning at the completion of each session.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that allows the competencies you already possess to be recognised, regardless of how you obtained them. It can be taken into account but it depends on a number of factors such as type and length of experience, qualifications when completed and relevance to this course. In such cases the applicant may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Recognition of prior learning suits people who have industry relevant:

• work skills or knowledge

• paid or unpaid work experience

• life experience

• community work experience

Recognition of prior learning could provide you with a full or part qualification, and avoid duplication of training. It could be used to identify what training you may need to complete a qualification, or could provide a pathway to higher qualifications for people who may not have access to further training.

Your RPL Assessor can discuss evidence you will need to supply with your application if you wish to have your experience recognised. In many cases, RPL will only give the off-the-job component of the unit. You may still need to meet the on-the-job component, assessed at work.
